Opening up a walk-in, storefront location was a big step for Koentopp Guitars. The previous shop space was worked in for four years.. It was sad packing tools up and seeing dust piles that had accumulated over the years. I also knew that this was the last work I would be doing there. I look forward to building Koentopp Guitars in a new space and into the brand of guitars that stands on its own.

The new space at 4754 N. Rockwell, in Chicago, is a breath of fresh air. After less than two weeks, this new chapter has brought new orders and a boost of structure andproductivity.

A Packed house at the Opening of Koentopp Guitars

Chicago history proves a great place for this business. During the early twentieth century, Chicago was not only a center of different cultures, but a center of music and music manufacturing. The identity of my work is in the Chicago style. Just as New York gave style and identity to guitar makers, D’Angelico and D’Aquisto, Chicago has left its influence on the way I work. Being in the Lincoln Square neighborhood, creates more accessibility for our customers and allows us to add a unique facet to Chicago.

Admiring an Amati

Our store opening on October 23rd was a huge success. The place was filled with warm bodies and smiles of friends and family. Never before have I seen a large group of my guitars come together and stand side by side. It was a great feeling like a family reuniting for one special night. Each Koentopp Guitar was brought by a proud owner to graciously show for a couple hours that evening.

I am so thankful and grateful for everyone who helped out at the store and who have helped me come this far. I could not have done this alone. I look forward in returning the favor and showing you what I do best.

Wow! Looks like such a blast! We’re so sorry we weren’t there. Soon the kids will be old enough to leave for a few days and we’ll be free to spend some time in Chicago visiting and playing guitars. After a period of slowing down on the guitar, double focusing on this science crap, I’m back to spending a lot time on Diez. I’ll be out of this program in another year, and back to full time dreams of guitar mastery. I can’t wait to see your new music boxes.
