A Hang with Nicholas Veinolgou
A week or two after I put the new Amati up to tension, I had the great privilege of hanging out with Nicholas Veinoglou for an afternoon in my shop. I have followed Nicholas for some time on social media. Immediately after we met face to face, I had the feeling that I had known him for a long time, like we had some kind of deep childhood history. I think this is partly because he is such a warm, kind and humble person, and I have no doubt that this has a lot to do with his amazing talent and the wonderful success he has in the music industry.
Sitting a few feet away from him as he got lost in the Blue Line and Amati was a religious experience for me. Being almost 10 months into the pandemic, this was maybe the first time for both of us to have a live performance of such intimacy. I think the entirety of his playing was improvisation, having the guitars take him to places that were new and magical.
I’m anxiously looking forward to many more hangs with Nicholas!
